How to Increase Chances of IPO Allotment? 7 Proven Rules
Allotment Strategies Masterclass

1. How SEBI Retail IPO Allotment Actually Works

When an IPO's retail category is oversubscribed (e.g. 20x or 50x), SEBI guidelines mandate an equal-treatment computerized lottery.

Under this system:

  • Every valid applicant has an equal probability of winning exactly 1 minimum lot.
  • Applying for maximum retail lots (₹2,00,000) under a single PAN does not increase your lottery odds over someone who applied for just 1 lot (₹15,000).

  • 2. The 7 Golden Rules to Maximize Allotment Success

  • Apply via Multiple Family PAN Accounts: Set up demat accounts for family members (parents, spouse, siblings) and submit 1 lot per PAN. Five individual PAN applications give you 5x the probability.
  • Always Choose 'Cut-Off Price': If an issue's price band is ₹290–₹308, bidding at ₹290 will cause instant rejection when the issue finalizes at ₹308. Selecting 'Cut-Off' automatically locks your bid at the final discovery price.
  • Avoid Last-Minute UPI Authorization: Approve your bank mandate well before 4:00 PM on Day 3 to prevent NPCI server congestion.
  • Leverage Shareholder Quotas: If the issuer is a subsidiary, buy parent company shares before the record date to apply in both quotas.
  • Ensure PAN Name Matches Bank Account: Third-party ASBA payments from non-matching bank accounts are frequently rejected by registrar scrutiny.
